If You Have an iPhone Update it Now!

    March 29, 2017

    Quote of the Day:

Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.”  -Edward Snowden

Yesterday (3/28/17) Apple released their new software for the iPhone, iOS 10.3.  In this update Apple released some major updates to the iOS operating system.  Some major changes such as Find my AirPods, CarPlay, a new file system and some small visual changes were made.

Most of these software updates contain major security updates that aren't very advertised.  For example, this update contained a major security update that patched a bug that enabled hackers to install ransomeware on your phone, which is a type of attack that renders your phone unusable until you pay a certain amount of money to unlock it.

In addition to this patch there were over 300 other security fixes in this update, so it is imperative that you update your iPhone now.  Having your software update-to-date is a great way to protect your personal cybersecurity from hackers.

To learn more about what was in the iOS 10.3 update visit 9 to 5 Mac to see their write up on the update here, and visit Apple's website here to see all of the security and other fixes!

This is just another reason why the software on your phone should always be up-to-date!

As always, thank you for joining us today!  Please be sure to come back Friday at 6:00pm EST for another practical strategy to take back your privacy.

App of the Week: Ghostery (Free)

Ghostery is a free iPhone app that is a comprehensive privacy browser.  Ghostery will block all third-party trackers and will keep all of your data safe and out of website's hands.  When in use, Ghostery will list all of the sites and third-party applications that have attempted to track you.  Ghostery will help you protect yourself while browsing the web on your iPhone.
